Teens: Welcome

More About the Teen Department

Simply bring your ID (your school ID will work) to the Circulation Desk. If you don’t have an ID you can come with your parent/guardian who has an ID to get a library card.

You can also sign up for a library card online using the Minuteman Library Network form which is available here. If you want to check out physical items from the library you will need your ID or your parent/guardian's ID for verification to get a physical library card.

If you have had a library card in the past and need a replacement you can get one with your ID at the Circulation Desk. .

From the Morse Institute Library you can borrow books, DVDs, video games, music, and items from the Library of Things with your library card. For more information about the Library of Things click here.

Your library card also gets you access to eBooks, downloadable audiobooks, and free streaming music and movies. For more information about how to access digital materials click here.

The Morse Institute Library also belongs to the Minuteman Library Network which allows you to request books and other materials from over 40 local libraries. You can place a hold on items from other libraries online with your library account and pick them up and return them right here at the Morse Institute Library.

The YAB is the Youth Advisory Board for tweens and teens ages 11-18. The YAB members meet approximately once a month to hang out, have their voices heard about library programs, suggest books and other materials for the teen collection, write book reviews, help with special projects, do fun activities, and more!

To join YAB you simply need to fill out a YAB application which is available online here or get a paper copy from the Teen Room. You can then sign up for YAB meetings you would like to attend on the library’s program calendar.

Summer Reading

How to participate:

  • You do not need to register to participate in Teen Summer Reading. Just log each day you read or listen to an audiobook on online using the Google Form or in person in the Teen Room or on the Bookmobile.

What "counts" for Teen Summer Reading:
  • You can read anything you’d like to participate in Teen Summer Reading – book, magazine, newspaper, blog, etc. Audiobooks, reading to others, or being read to are all very much reading – please log it! You can of course also log the days you do any required reading for school.

  • There is no required length of time you need to read per day. Reading is reading and we love to see it! Please log it and try to win some fun prizes!

How do I log what I read:
  • Online: Use the Google Form linked here.

  • In Person: Log your reading using the paper tickets available in the Teen Room anytime the library is open. The library’s bookmobile will also have paper tickets for Teen Summer Reading and accept paper tickets.

  • If you forget to log a day: No problem! You can log previous days whenever you get a chance, both online and in person.

What are the prizes?
  • Weekly Prizes: $15 gift cards to local businesses & 2 vouchers for a free ice cream at Park Street Ice Cream Shoppe. Drawings will be done each week for this prize and you are entered for it each time you logged your reading the previous week. If you win you will get to pick which gift card you’d like from the selection on hand that week.
  • Grand Prizes: This summer’s grand prizes are Beats Solo4 wireless headphones and a Kindle. You can enter to win the grand prize drawing each time you finish reading/listening to something and fill out the second part of the ticket. Remember to select which grand prize drawing you’d like to be entered for on your ticket!
