Boston Tax Help Coalition is a public-private collaboration within the Mayor’s Office of Financial Empowerment under the Office of Workforce Development, an innovative public agency that seeks to ensure the full participation of all Boston residents in the City’s economic vitality and future.

With support from the Department’s Problem Resolution Office, the Taxpayer Advocate assists taxpayers and their representatives in resolving their problems as quickly as possible and ensures that all taxpayers are aware of and afforded their rights in all interactions with the Department.

Students in the Federal Tax Clinic represent low-income taxpayers in controversies with the IRS, both before the IRS and in federal court. Students will work individually and in teams to represent taxpayers involving examinations, administrative appeals, collection matters and cases before the United States Tax Court and Federal District Courts.

The IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals.
