Purpose
In fulfilling the Library’s mission to advance equitable access to resources and information, the Morse Institute Library lends mobile wireless hotspots to Library patrons. Our Hotspots program is funded for one year through the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the hotspot lending program focuses on IMLS' primary goal for these funds, digital equity.
Acceptable Use
Borrowers agree to abide by the Library’s policies and rules, and agree to hold the Library and its agents harmless from any and all claims, losses, damages, obligations, or liabilities, directly or indirectly, relating to the use of the Library’s hotspot and internet access provided by the Library. Deliberate modification of Library-owned equipment is strictly prohibited.
While checked out, the hotspot remains the responsibility of the borrower. Borrowers should not lose control of the device by lending to others.
Keep in a temperature-controlled environment (do not leave in vehicles or anywhere where extreme temperatures may occur).
Parents/guardians are responsible for the use of the Hotspot by minors.
Internet service relies on cell tower technology and coverage.
Prior to borrowing a hotspot for the first time, all patrons will be required to sign a Hotspot Lending Agreement, which will be noted on their patron account for all future borrowing.
Definition
A “hotspot” consists of a wireless hotspot, power cord, SIM card, battery and case. When a patron borrows a mobile hotspot, the patron’s use of the equipment is available under the above terms and conditions. These terms and conditions are in addition to the standard Library policies and other terms and conditions described below for which the user is responsible.
Who Can Borrow a Hotspot?
Anyone 17 years or older with a valid Minuteman Library card in good standing.
Borrowers must sign the Library’s Hotspot Lending Agreement before a hotspot can be checked out.
Only one hotspot is allowed per household at any one time. Each hotspot will support up to 10 connected devices.
For How Long?
Hotspots may be borrowed for two (2) weeks.
Renewals are not permitted. Hotspots and all components must be returned directly to a library staff member who will verify that all components of the hotspot are accounted for before checking it in from the borrowing patron’s account. The hotspot will not be considered returned until all components are returned.
The hotspot may not be checked out again for at least a 24-hour period.
After a 3-day grace period, overdue hotspots will be deactivated.
Hotspot Availability
Hotspots are available on a first come, first serve basis. You can check availability in the catalog or by calling the main desk and speaking to a staff member at 508-647-6520 during business hours.
Returns
Hotspots must be returned to a library service desk. Do NOT place the hotspot in the book drop.
Hotspots should be returned with the power cord, SIM card, battery and case to the Library in the same good working condition as it was when it was checked out.
If the hotspot is not returned within three (3) days after the due date, service will be turned off and the hotspot will become unusable.
Troubleshooting
If the hotspot is damaged or not working, return it to the library desk. Report the nature of the damage to a staff person.
