Take A 3D Pen Home Program

Thanks to a grant from MathWorks, the Morse Institute Library is pleased to offer Natick Teens aged 11-18 the Take a 3D Pen Home program!

This special MakerLAB program allows Teens to take a 3Doodler 3D Pen home for 5 weeks, supported by online workshops taught by Teen Librarian Robin.

About 3D Pens

A 3D pen is a pen that extrudes heated plastic from the pen’s nozzle. The plastic dries and hardens as it leaves the pen, which makes your art solid. You can draw in 2D or 3D, forming cool objects and mini sculptures!

We'll be using 3Doodler Create + 3D Pens - learn more about how they work on the 3Doodler web site:

How the Program Works

For each 5 week session of the Take a 3D Pen Home program, Teens borrow a 3Doodler 3D Pen Kit.

Each Teen will take home:

  • one 3Doodler Create + 3D Pen
  • filament in various colors
  • a DoodlePad for drawing on
  • a set of Challenge Cards

Teen Librarian Robin will be teaching basic 3D Pen skills via Zoom as part of the program. Enrolled Teens are expected to attend the program orientation and three workshop dates of their choice.

  • 3D Pen orientation (mandatory: all enrolled Teens attend)
  • 4 workshop sessions (Teen attend a minimum of 3 sessions)

All materials must be returned promptly at the end of the 5 week series.

Questions

1. Can both my Teens apply?

Yes! Depending on the number of applications received for each session, we may only be able to lend one 3D Pen kit per household. Each Teen must submit an application and liability waiver.

2. Can my Teen apply if they can't attend any of the Tuesday night sessions?

The orientation and workshop sessions are an integral part of the program. We suggest you wait until their schedule changes and they can attend the online Zoom sessions.

3. Can my Tween apply?

We look forward to seeing your Tween in this program when they turn 11.

4. Can my Teen enroll in the program more than once?

Yes, but as this is a brand new program at the Morse Institute Library, we're currently giving priority to Teens who haven't previously enrolled in the program.

5. Do we check the 3D Pen kit out using our library card?
Nope! Our Teen Department will be lending you the 3D Pen kit directly.

6. I don't live in Natick, but really wish my Teen could attend this program.

Ask your library to consider doing a similar program! They can email Robin for program info at teens@morseinstitute.org

7. Any other questions?
